Update and Media:
For useful resources and the latest developments from Projects International
September Update
A continuing busy time for PI as we continue with the Career Maps Project with HSI and ATTTO in New Zealand, developments continue in the Middle East and South East Asia and we complete with Ethnic Minority Tribes from the Central Highlands of Viet Nam, and move onto work in the Tourism sector with sector specific skill strategies.
The Sector Specific Skills Strategies
Projects International has been contracted by the Tourism sector to work on the provision of an industry profile and stakeholder engagement process that will inform the creation of an Sector Skills Strategy. This process will provide baseline data and guide workplace training development.
NZAID ECE Design Project, Gia Lai Province, Viet Nam
Projects International provided Senior Consultant Chris Knol as Team Leader for a NZAID project in Viet Nam in July and August.
The overall objective of the mission was to finalise the formulation of a project design that will support Gia Lai province to improve the early childhood and post early childhood education in three areas:
(i) access to early childhood education,
(ii) quality of pre-school programmes and post early childhood education,
(iii) teacher training.
Working with international ECE expert, Lisa Albion from Cambodia, and a local team of experts and interpretors, Chris was responsible for leading the deployment to the Central Highlands of Gia Lai Province to work with with local education authorities on behalf of the J'rai and Bhana tribes. The project will finish in September.
Career Maps and Pathways Update
Since March of this year Projects International has been working for ATTTO and HSI (the Hospitality and Tourism ITOs) on establishing a comprehensive, national view of current education and training solutions leading to a national “map” of provision across the tertiary sector, for all industries that significantly impact the tourism and hospitality sectors.
Throughout August and early September, regional forums were held in Wellington, Christchurch, Rotorua and Auckland.
Open to all those with an involvement in workplace training, the provision of secondary and tertiary education, and careers guidance, the forums also comprised of government agencies and other interested parties who wanted to have their say about careers development in the aviation, tourism, travel, museums and hospitality industries.
Participants were invited to scrutinise the CMP database tool and give their view on the information and the project as a whole. The aim of this was to determine the accuracy, currency and relevancy of career paths and maps across the sectors, to evaluate current job qualification provision, and to identify the gaps or issues in both job training and qualifications provision.
We had good registration and interest in the forums, and it has proved to be both an imperative and interesting part of the project.
Almost all participants commented that the project is an excellent step forward in clarifying the jobs, pathways, transferability of skills, and current qualifications within the aviation, tourism, travel, museum and hospitality sectors.
Projects International is currently working through the information learned from the Forums, so there is still time to contribute. If you are interested in viewing the CMP database to date, please go to www.projectsinternational.org/resources.htm. We welcome your input.
